Balkan Brac John Bencic Cleveland 1920's  SOLD

The label reads: “First and Oldest Mfr of Musical Insts. John Bencic 1317 1/2 E 41st Street Cleveland Ohio”

The Brac, used throughout the Balkan countries is the bigger brother to the Tamburitza or Prim. Roughly the size of a small guitar it has a similar tone and voice to the Celtic Bouzouki.

We are estimating that this lovely instrument was built in the 1920’s.

Beautiful Ludwig Ace top-tension plectrum banjo. Gold-plated metalwork, including pancake tuners and original tailpiece. Marquetry all over rim and resonator. The Ace model was the middle of the Ludwig line, but might have been the most aesthetically pleasing of the lot — fancier than the “plain Jane” Kingstons, Bellevues, etc., but more tasteful/less gaudy than the Chiefs, etc. This one has a beautiful clear tone. Now dated to 1932.

Here is a lovely cedar topped Lowden with mahogany sides and back. This warm and sweet guitar is great of fingerstyle and open tunings. It is in great overall shape with only minor play wear and comes with the original Lowden Hiscox case.
