Comments | Rickenbacker has a unique position in guitar history, having produced some of the very earliest true electric instruments – specifically, the ‘frying pan’ steel guitars of 1931. Rickenbacker instruments are quite distinctive visually and tonally; the chime of the Riki 12 on so many hit pop records and the bite of the Riki Bass are immediately recognisable. However, the company has resisted the temptation to grow for growth’s sake and has maintained production in its Santa Ana, California plant.
This Turqoise 1997 Rickenbacker 360 is an interesting piece. Ricks are rare enough, but the turqoise colour is unusual and quite attractive – and in excellent condition. A standard feature on the 360 is the two output jacks – Standard and Rick-O-Sound. The Standard jack functions as any normal output jack, while the Rick-O-Sound jack is what’s called ‘Stereo’ on some other brands. When used with a special cable, each pickup can be fed to a separate amplifier or mixer channel. |
