Comments | The Larrivee Custom Shop LS-04 Bloodwood is a quietly spectacular guitar. Not that it has a low volume – it doesn’t – but while it’s not exceptionally ornate, it’s got a fabulous sound and tunes just fall out of it.
The LS or Larrivee Small body is a slightly scaled down version of the standard Larrivee L body, targeted towards those who want a slightly smaller instrument. The lower bout is about an inch smaller, the waist about half an inch, but the upper bout is very sligtly larger. Bracing and construction are the same as the L body. The stock LS-04 is a production guitar, though not really advertised, and usually comes with mahogany or rosewood back and sides. Bloodwood (referred to as Satine) is a tropical hardwood from South America and features a brownish red color. This particular set has more of a striped figure with distinct grain lines. Tonally it is well balanced with a focused note fundamental, great note separation and a quick response to a light touch with plenty of volume. Combined with a Canadian Sitka Spruce top, the tonal results are impressive. This fine instrument is a custom order, so there is only one like it! |
