There are a few builders that always grab my attention when they bring a new guitar into the shop and Anthony Karol is definitely one of them. His original guitar designs, outstanding attention to detail, use of exotic woods and materials along with excellent tone and playability have continued show his high level of luthier.
This Grand Concert body guitar is stocked full of unique and high quality features including an Adirondack spruce top, Brazilian rosewood sides an back, slotted head stock, 13 fret body joint, Thuya burled rosette, Koa body binding, Red Abalone inlay, Paua backstrip ….. wow the list goes on and on!! One could imagine that with all of these visual features things could look cluttered but that’s not the case here. Anthony has a keen eye for just the right binding and inlay to make the beautiful wood sets pop!!
The 13 fret neck to body joint moves the placement of the bridge into that sweet spot that provides a crisp attack and all of the rich parlor style guitar midrange. The addition of the side port allows the top to move more freely by moving air more rapidly. These tone features in combination with the premium tones wood create a sound with crisp trebles, full bass and very rich midrange and overtones. Not many small guitars sound this big!!
