Comments | Here’s a lovely Gibson A-4 Mandolin from 1914. This instrument is in good working order with some wear as expected on an instrument almost a century old! Tonally, it has a nice bite and lots of volume, and is lots of fun to play. |

Neck | Mahogany neck with ivoroid bound ebony fingerboard; mother of pearl dot markers. The headstock has a black finish top and back, with mother of pearl script The Gibson logo and fleur-de-lys on the front. |
Frets | Frets show some play wear. |
Body | Mahogany back and sides with carved spruce top. Ebony bridge. Bound Oval sound hole with ivoroid and herringbone trim. There is a small stable crack on the back. |
Finish | Original nitrocellulose lacquer finish in decent shape; some wear marks. The top has a black finish, the sides a reddish tint. |
Hardware/electronics | Original faux-tortoise pickguard and support. The tuners are replicas with the originals in the case., |
Playability/Action | Plays well and we will of course set the instrument up for the needs of the player. |
