Here is a lovely Walnut-bodied Parlour Guitar from the shop of John Loomer in Darien, Connecticut. John has been repairing and building in Darien for quite some time.
This brand new walnut parlour guitar features a Carpathian Spruce top, flamed walnut back and sides, a 12-fret mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and bridge; the head plates are walnut and the rope-style binding and rosette are Imbuya. Waverly tuners and bone nut and saddle round out the hardware. The clear nitrocellulose lacquer finish is very well done.
At one time, walnut was a traditionally important tone wood but was displaced by tropical woods like mahogany and rosewood. With the increasing scarcity of the exotic species, the older woods are coming back. Walnut has a warm, open tone and this particular set is quite attractive.
