Comments | Gibson introduced the Les Paul in 1952. But by 1958, it wasn’t selling well, and Ted McCarty attributed this partly to the flashy metallic gold-top finish, so the Les Paul Standard gained a traditional sunburst. This is a rather nice 2012 example of the Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue R8. The R8 is just a short form for ‘1958 Reissue’, as the R9 model is the 1959 reissue; the main difference now is the neck profile. The R8 has a somewhat chunkier neck compared to the R9.Originally, the R8 had a rather plain top. Not any more! This one features a lovely burled or blistered center-seam maple top, and it’s very attractive. It’s in very good condition with little play wear. Body | Classic Les Paul body design and construction, and with a very nicely blistered or burled center-seam maple top. Mahogany back, assembled with Franklin Titebond glue. |

Playability/Action | The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue plays very well – these instruments all pass through a Plek machine for fret levelling and setup. We will of course tune the setup as the player requires. |
