Comments | Here is a 2005 Gibson J-185 EC Custom in cherry red! In case you’re wondering – the EC stands for Electric Cutaway; it’s not the initials of a famous player.
Gibson introduced the J-185 in 1951 and discontinued it in 1959, building 270 natural finish and 648 sunburst examples. Despite its low sales numbers, some players — including the Everly Brothers — loved them. Gibson has periodically reissued them, and since around 1999 it’s been a regular production item again. This example is the J-185 EC Custom, from 2005 and number 34 of 200 built. The EC Custom was a limited edition for 2005 only. It is in excellent condition with a striking cherry red lacquer finish, abalone rosette, split parallelogram position markers, and a Fishman Prefix Plus pickup system factory installed. |
