Schoenberg Soloist guitars are built to model the 1929 Martin OM, with the addition of a cutaway. These instruments are custom built for Schoenberg by the C.F. Martin Guitar Company of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, so this model may bear a more than passing resemblance to a Martin product.
The neck block is stamped “Made Exclusively for Schoenberg Guitars by C.F. Martin and Co.”
This specific 1999 Schoenberg Soloist OM was built at Martin, voiced and signed by Dana Bourgeois before he launched his own shop and label. It is built with an Adirondack Spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back, sides and headplate, mahogany neck, with snowflake-inlaid ebony for the fingerboard and pyramid style bridge. The pickguard is faux tortoise, mounted on the finish so it doesn’t crack the top. For hardware, this guitar features gold Waverly tuners with some wear on the buttons, and bone nut and saddle.
The neck has a vintage style V profile and it’s quite comfortable to play – and it sounds great. The frets are somewhat larger than traditionally found on acoustic guitars, but that adds to clearer tonal separation and better grip for single-note playing.
Overall, this instrument is in very good condition but it has had a repair to the top just under where the player’s right forearm would rest.
