Comments | Today we have a beautiful 1997 Guild Starfire 4 Blonde Maple Thinline Guitar, in great condition. Guild introduced the Starfire line in 1960 as a hollow thin body guitar with single cutaway. The Starfire IV and V models appeared in 1963, as double cutaway models with solid center blocks. The Starfire V was discontinued in 1973 and the Starfire IV in 1987. The Starfire VI, with fancier appointments, was built between 1964 and 1979.’Reissue’ models, made between 1991 and 2005, are named with Arabic numerals rather than Roman. This is a wonderful example of the 1997 Guild Starfire 4 Blonde, with a stunning maple set. The neck is mahogany to reduce some of the brightness of maple guitars and round the tone slightly. The Guild Starfire pickups at this point were made by Seymour Duncan, and have a somewhat brighter, more vocal sound than other humbuckers. |

Playability/Action | This guitar plays very well, and I’m not just saying that because I like these guitars. The neck is not as slim as 60’s and early 70’s models; it’s perhaps similar to but a bit less chunky than a current Gibson ES-335 neck profile. The action is a normal height, there’s room to move it around, and it plays cleanly. |
Case | Guild archtop, hardshell case included. |
