Comments | Here’s a lovely 1976 Guild Capri CE100D Blonde Archtop. Guild introduced the CE-100 in 1956 to compete with the new Gibson ES-175 and it was built till 1983. A new version is now available from Guild.
This guitar is in great shape and is very comfortable to play. Guild pickups of this era are really good sounding – not overly hot but with an open, vocal tone and just enough edge. These pickups also appear in the early BC Rich guitars. |
Serial Number | 141380, built during 1976 at the Guild plant in Westerly, Rhode Island, USA. |
Pricing | $1,699.00 CAD with original case. SOLD |
Neck | Mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, mother of pearl block position markers. 24 3/4 inch scale length, 1 5/8 inch nut width. |
Frets | Frets are in good condition with lots of life left. |
Body | Fully hollow body, with a single Florentine cutaway. Made with laminated maple. There are two large soundposts, and the body center is stuffed with foam for feedback suppression. The body is very reminiscent of the Gibson ES-175. |
Finish | Original gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish in good condition. There are a couple of marks at the headstock, from the finish reacting to plastic padding on a hanger. |
Hardware/electronics | All original hardwware. Chrome ‘Guild’ branded tuners, likely by Schaller, Guild harp tailpiece, two chrome covered Guild humbuckers, pickup selector, individual volume and tone contols. Rosewood adjustable bridge and base. Guild ‘Stairstep’ pickguard. |
Playability/Action | Plays very well and currently strung with flatwounds. I find the necks on Guilds of this period extremely comfortable – not overly narrow, wide enough for complex chord shapes, but not too wide or chunky. |
Case | Original hardshell case included. |
