1975 Guild D-40 NT Dreadnought

Comments	Guild opened in 1952 with a small plant in New York but by 1956 had moved to Hoboken, New Jersey. The company kept growing, because of the quality of Guild’s production, and in 1967 production moved to a former furniture factory in Westerly, Rhode Island. By this time, Guild flat top acoustics were very popular and a big part of Guild’s product line. The D-40 has earned a solid reputation as a ‘bluegrass’ guitar – loud, clear and punchy with lots of articulation and warmth. This 1975 Guild D-40 NT Dreadnought (the NT stands for ‘Natural Top’) is in good playing condition and has a full, open, bright sound.
Serial Number	127513, dates to 1975; built in Westerly, Rhode Island, USA.

Neck	Mahogany neck with unbound risewood fingerboard. ‘Chesterfield’ headstock logo with faux mother of pearl Guild logo and torch inlay.
Frets	Original frets with noticeable wear in the low positions. It’s likely that they could be dressed and recrowed again.
Body	Guild Dreadnought, square shoulder size. Spruce top and mahogany back and sides.
Finish	Original clear gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, with a darker tint on the back and sides, in decent condition; some play wear and small dings.
Hardware/electronics	Original Guild tuners, Tusq saddle.
Playability/Action	This instrument plays well and cleanly the way it’s currently set up, but the action is on the high side, at 8/64ths inch on the bass and 6/64ths on the treble. There is lots of space on the saddle to come down, however.
