1970 Gibson Hummingbird Custom SOLD

Comments The Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most recognisable guitars available. The iconic hand-painted pickguard instantly identifies the model, and as Gibson sometimes explains, this provides a degree of ‘natural compression’ that helps produce its distinctive sound – full and rich, yet bright and clearly articulated.
Serial Number A605001, Union Made during 1970 at the Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Pricing $1,950.00 Canadian with hardshell case. SOLD
Neck Mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, block mother of pearl position markers. Black peghead overlay with mother of pearl Gibson logo and crown.
Frets Original frets with some wear.
Body The Gibson Hummingbird uses a traditional square-shoulder dreadnought design, with spruce top and mahogany for the back and sides. The iconic hand-painted pickguard provides, as Gibson explains, a degree of ‘natural compression’. Multi-layer purfling goes with the top and back binding. Rosewood bridge.
Finish Original gloss nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish, with tint and I’d have to say this instrument has spent quality time in some smoky rooms. The finish is in good shape overall with a significant yellowing on the binding. It’s certain that this guitar has seen many performances – there are two lines on the bass side where the song list was taped.
Hardware/electronics Grover Roto-Matic tuners with metal ‘tulip’ buttons, bone nut and saddle. The truss rod cover has been replaced with a three-screw model.
Playability/Action This guitar plays reasonably with a decent action and the bridge has been shaved at some point. It sounds *fantastic*.
Case Arched hardshell case included.
