1966 Blackface Fender Bassman Head SOLD

Here is an exceptionally clean 1966 Blackface Fender Bassman head.

The Fender Bassman was one of Fender’s most successful designs, but despite the name on the panel, many guitarists have used them. Originally a ‘combo’ style amp, the Bassman started off in 1952 with 26 watts and one 15 inch speaker. After a six month production layoff during 1954, it shifted to 35 watts and four 10 inch speakers.

These combo amps were very popular, but in 1960, Fender completely changed the design to the ‘piggy-back’ concept, with a separate head on top of a speaker cabinet (or two). This has been the format for most of the higher-powered amps that have followed.

This example was built in 1966, after the sale of Fender to CBS (in 1965). At this time, CBS made no significant changes to the design or circuitry, though the back panel clearly identifies Fender as being a division of Columbia Record Distribution Corp. The next year, 1967, changes did appear with the introduction of the silver-face amplifier series.

This amp features all original transformers and very very clean tolex covering. The circuit listed on the tube chart is ABB64. The power plug has been replaced.

Serial Number: A 14085, built during 1966 in Fullerton, California.

Pricing: $850 CAD. SOLD
