Comments | Here’s another example of a real workhorse guitar – the 1959 Gibson J45. Introduced in 1942, the J-45 has been in production ever since and is one of Gibson’s most successful designs.
This guitar has a very full presence, and a warm, rich sound. There are good reasons the J-45 is so popular, and this guitar demonstrates them. It’s comfortable to play and delivers a great vintage guitar experience. |
Serial Number | No serial number, but the FON (Factory Order Number) is S756 35 with two black blocks following. The S indicates 1959 production, the 756 batch and number 35 in a run of 40 guitars. |
Pricing | $3,995.00 CAD with non-original hardshell case. NO LONGER AVAILABLE |
Neck | Mahogany neck with unbound rosewood fingerboard. Mother of pearl dot position markers. At some point, the truss rod access well was widened. |
Frets | Some wear in the lower positions, and it’s likely that the guitar was refretted some time ago; there is lots of fret left. |
Body | The classic slope-shoulder Gibson dreadnought, with spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The top has play wear around the soundhole and around the treble end of the bridge. |
Finish | Nitrocellulose lacquer sunburst finish |
Hardware/electronics | Appears original with the exception of the bridge. This guitar was originally equipped with an adjustable bridge, but that was long ago removed and replaced with a rosewood bridge with fixed bone saddle. Original Kluson strip tuners with creme plastic buttons. The truss rod cover is not original. |
Playability/Action | Plays well. At some point this guitar apparently had a neck reset, so the action is fine. |
Case | Non-original black hardshell case included. |
