1956 Gibson SJ (consignment) SOLD

Comments	Here’s a great 1956 Gibson SJ. The SJ, a slope-shouldered jumbo, was introduced in 1942 and was available only in sunburst until 1954, when a ‘natural’ option appeared; that was called the ‘Country Western’ model in 1956. This example was originally sold by G. Rutledge and Son Musical Instruments, with shops in Galt and Guelph, Ontario. It’s in great playing condition, and some time ago had frets 1 to 9 replaced. At one point, a soundhole pickup was installed and later removed. The mounting holes have been filled and touched up, as have the mounting holes from a volume control. The body has been lightly oversprayed with clear lacquer. Overall, this is a great sounding and playing example of the mid-50’s SJ.
Serial Number	V7389-16 stamped on block. Dates to 1956 and built in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Neck	Mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, faux pearl split parallelogram position markers.
Frets	Good playing condition; original frets from 10 up, and there was a partial refret from 1 to 9.
Body	Slope-shouldered dreadnought, classic SJ body shape. Spruce top, mahogany back and sides, multi-bound top and single-bound back.
Finish	Sunburst finish, with some overspray. Lots of play wear on the back of the neck in the lower positions.
Hardware/electronics	Original Kluson Deluxe tuners with white plastic buttons, plastic nut, delrin saddle.
Playability/Action	Plays well and lots of room to move the action around.
Case	Japanese hardshell case included.
