Comments	Gibson’s Ted McCarty and Les Paul introduced the Les Paul model in 1952, and early models featured a unique – and short-lived – trapeze bridge / tailpiece combination. This 1953 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top has been converted, as many were, to a what is now standard – a bridge and stop tailpiece configuration. Aside from that, it’s been refretted for playability, and the output jack plate has been replaced, but is otherwise in original condition. The original trapeze tailpiece is included in the original brown 4-latch case. The guitar plays well and cleanly, and is very lively. It’s bright and resonant yet full and rich sounding.

Neck	Mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, MOTS trapezoidal position markers.
Frets	This instrument has been refretted, and there is very minor wear a fair amount of fret left;
Body	The classic, carved maple cap on a mahogany slab body.
Finish	Original nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Metallic gold top, and clear on the rest of the instrument. The
Hardware/electronics	Kluson-style tuners with plastic keystone buttons. P-90 single coil pickups with selector switch, and individual volume and tone controls. The original trapeze tailpiece is included in the case, and a stop tailpiece and bridge have been added. The original plastic output jack plate broke, as most did over the years, and has been replaced.
Playability/Action	This guitar is quite playable. The action is a regular height and the it plays very cleanly.
