Gypsy Jazz, or Hot Club Jazz, became visible to most of the world through the work of Django Reinhardt in the 1930s. Django often used a Selmer - Maccaferri guitar, a very distinctive design. Some Maccafferri era instruments have a custom resonator within the body to increase volume and projection. Django influenced many, many players including Chet Atkins and John Jorgenson.
The Gitane DG-300 Modele John Jorgenson is based on a post-Maccaferri, petite bouche (small mouth, or soundhole) Selmer model. It features a ladder-braced solid spruce top, with laminated sides and back made of Santos Rosewood (also known as Pau Ferro). and the body is bound with faux tortise. The neck is walnut with a 26 5/8 inch scale length ebony fingerboard, and ebony is also used for the bridge. The neck profile is a distinctive squared D shaped profile.
Built in July 2012, this guitar is in excellent condition with only very minor wear. A hardshell case is included.
