S/N: R13441, built during 2001 at the Fender Custom Shop.
The Fender Stratocaster is one of the most popular and successful musical instrument designs, and the 1960 Closet Classic reproduces one of the key milestones in Stratocaster development.
In late 1959, Fender introduced the first rosewood fingerboards on both Stratocaster and Telecaster models. The earliest versions used a 'slab' of rosewood bonded to the neck. By 1962, Fender had tooled up for using a rosewood veneer, and the fingerboard thickness remains constant across the crown of the neck.
The Fender Closet Classic '60 reissue strat is a re-creation of these first slab-board Stratocasters. Classed by Fender as a 'Relic' series, the Closet Classic imagines the instrument as one purchased new and put away for decades. As on the original, the finish is nitrocellulose lacquer and the electronics include a 3-way switch. The fretwire is a bit larger than the original would have been, and this is a good thing.
This example dates to 2001 and is in overall good condition - there is some minor play wear, minor fret wear, and a dent on the lower 'horn', the treble cutaway. Our repair shop estimates about a 70% success level for touching this up.
The original brown tolex case is included.
