S/N: 91337331, dates to May 13, 1997 at the Gibson Nashville plant.
The Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis was introduced in 1991 and built until 2011, and features a single florentine cutaway archtop body and a single humbucking pickup in the neck position.
Herb Ellis was a very well known American jazz guitarist, working with Oscar Peterson in the 1950's and playing on thousands of sessions in West Coast studios, and died in 2010.
The Gibson ES-165 Herb Ellis uses figured, laminate maple for the body and mahogany for the neck. The fingerboard and bridge base are rosewood, and the hardware is gold plated.
This ES-165 Herb Ellis example dates to May 13, 1997 and was built at the Gibson Nashville plant. It is in good condition but the top braces loosend and the top has flattened somewhat so the bridge is raised to compensate. Otherwise, it plays well and comes with the original Gibson hardshell case.
