S/N: S948763, dates to 1979 and the Fender plant in Fullerton, California.
The Fender Stratocaster Hardtail has been a somewhat neglected version of the classic Strat, and even when players didn't use or actually blocked the trem bridge, the trem version outsold it.
This example of the Fender Stratocaster Hardtail with maple neck dates to 1979 and was built at the Fender Fullerton plant. It has a lot of play wear and I would suspect that, given the wear elsewhere, the pickguard and covers have been replaced. The finish is black and has an interesting wear - there is a bit of 'ghosting' that creates a bluish haze around the edges. This has an intriguing look and would be difficult to reproduce delberately. Along the outside odge of the body at the arm contour, the finish is worn entrirely away, down to bare wood. Fretwear is moderate to heavy, but there is plenty of fretwire available for a fret dress.
The original molded hardshell case is included.
