S/N: 98489, built during 1962 at the historic Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The iconic Gibson J-45 has been one of the most successful steel string guitar designs. Not only does sound great accompanying a voice, it sounds good on its own and records very well. This last aspect should not be undervalued. It may seem counter-intuitive, but instruments with very wide responses can be challenging to contain on a multi-track recording, while guitars like the J-45 that have a more focused frequency response slot nicely into a mix.
Here we have a 1962 Gibson J-45, in its original sunburst finish. It has been used as intended but fret wear is light to moderate; the nitrocellulose lacquer finish displays the natural patterns of checking but is in overall good condition. Originally, this guitar had an adjustable saddle. The channel for that saddle has been filled and a fixed, traditional saddle added. The original fibre (cardboard) case is included - if desired, modern hard-shell cases are available.
