S/N: A-1083, built during 1959 at the Gibson / Epiphone shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan
The Epiphone Century thinline archtop electric guitar was a simple beast - a thin body with no cutaway and one pickup. Built from 1939 to 1970, the Century bears some resemblance to the Gibson ES-100 and ES-125 models but the Epiphone Century has a spruce top, with laminated maple back and sides.
This example was built in late 1958 or earlier 1959; later in 1959 the Epiphone New York style pickup was changed to a standard Gibson P-90. On this example, the knobs have been changed and the pickguard is gone, and as well the original logo plate is missing. Presently strung with flatwounds, this guitar plays well and has a very interesting, useful jazz or blues tone. The finish has some wear, and the fretwear is medium. A newer hardshell case is included.
