S/N: N/A, built around 1929 at the Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
When the Ukulele was introduced to America, it became very popular and instrument makers took heed. The Gibson Uke-1 appeared in 1927 and stayed in production for decades.
The Gibson Uke-1 is a fairly plain instrument, built of readily available honduras mahogany rather than Hawaiian Koa, and use rosewood for the fingerboards. Early examples like this feature a 'The Gibson' script logo. For the first few years, into the 1930's, only a soprano model was available.
This late 1920's Gibson Uke-1 soprano ukulele is in good condition in all aspects. There is some play wear to the top, but it plays well and the tuners work smoothly. A newer hardshell case is included.
