A relatively new development, locking tuners are intended to complement vibrato systems. However, they can also have a benefit for instruments without vibrato systems: faster restringing.
Locking tuners resemble and tune the same way that standard tuners do. The difference is that the post has a mechanism to hold the string in place, removing the need to wrap the string around the post.
