Serial Number | 39574, built 1960 in Brooklyn NY. |
Pricing | $5299 CDN with original case. No Longer Available |
Neck | Maple neck with bound ebony fingerboard, mother-of-pearl neo-classic thumbnail position markers. Zero fret. |
Frets | 22 narrow frets with some wear in the first positions. This guitar has probably been refretted and the fingerboard given a tighter crown than stock. |
Body | Maple laminate body with a very nice flamed top. Trestle bracing to resist feedback. |
Finish | Gretsch Orange! Nitrocellulose finish. |
Hardware/electronics | Twin original Filter ‘Trons with gold plated covers; standard filter 6120 wiring with master volume and individual volumes, pickup selector and tone (mud)switch. Space control bridge and V-cut Bigsby B6. Original gold-plated Grover Sta-Tite tuning gears with oval buttons; gold is mostly worn off the buttons. Replacement pickguard. |
Playability/Action | The Zero fret makes the action reliably consistent from the open strings up. Often, nuts are cut inconsistently (or just incorrectly) and this makes for an uneven or uncomfortable action. Presently set up with a ‘standard’ electric action, this guitar plays cleanly. |
Case | Original Gretsch hardshell case included. |
Comments | This is a very nice 6120. It’s a great looker with the flamed maple top and the finish is in good shape. |
