Comments | This is a very clean 2009 Gibson Custom Shop ES-330.
Gibson started producing the ES-330 in 1959, but not, as you might think, as a ‘cheaper’ version of the new, popular ES-335. Instead, it was to replace the discontinued ES-225, a single-cutaway, single-pickup thin, hollow model. The ES-225 was built from 1955 to 1959, and had one P-90 pickup – in the middle position, and wasn’t very popular. The ES-330 design was almost immediately shared with Gibson’s Epiphone division, who turned it in to the Casino. This became popular with some British bands, and appeared on many Beatles albums. Originally, the neck of the ES-330 joined the body at the 15th fret, but in 1968, a version joining the body at the 19th fret became available. This is a Gibson Custom Shop reproduction of a late 1960’s ES-330, with the fully hollow maple laminate body. It’s in excellent condition, with no appreciable wear. |
