Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Signature Model Electric Guitar

Music Man Guitars is a long-time favourite among many players seeking excellent playability and functionality in a US made instrument. The St. Vincent signature guitar with GRAMMY® award-winning musician Annie Clark aka “St. Vincent”– brings her own signature model to the ranks of these exceptional instruments. Annie and the award-winning engineering team at Ernie Ball Music Man set out to design a unique electric guitar that fit her form, playing technique and style

Annie is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist that studied at Berklee College of Music, served as a touring member of Sufjan Steven’s Band and then formed her own band in 2006. Her music blends soft rock, experimental rock, electropop and jazz influences. This blend of musical styles most likely prompted the need for a guitar with versatile tones and great playability to go along with a striking visual design.

Attention To Detail The St. Vincent

The first thing I noticed when checking out this guitar was the great attention to detail I have come to expect from Musicman. The fretwork feels great, fit and finish is spot on and that wonderfully smooth neck is a dream to play. The unique body shape of this guitar really catches the eye with a design that blends together the Gibson Explorer and the Gretsch Bo Diddley.

If you’ve not tried a Musicman neck before, I recommend you do. This particular guitar features 22 high profile medium width frets on a 10” radius rosewood neck. The hand rubbed gunstock oil and wax blend finish allows the player to slide up and down the neck without the sticky feeling often associated with high gloss neck finishes. The neck joins the body with 5 bolts to eliminate shifting and the sculpted neck joint allows great access to the higher frets. The upper fret access is made even better due to the fact that the body design doesn’t have a large treble side protrusion.

St. Vincent Standout Features:

  • A modern style two point tremolo for smooth whammy bar work that stays in tune
  • Schaller locking tuners for further tuning stability
  • Three Dimarzio custom mini humbucking pickups with chrome covers.

A five way pickup selector along with single volume and tone controls provide a wide array of sounds. While mini humbuckers are a bit brighter and don’t have the same girth as a full sized humbucker, this guitar still pumps out a great crunch tone on an overdriven amp.

While available in five different colours this particular example is the custom color St. Vincent blue hand mixed by Annie herself.

If you’re looking for a versatile sounding guitar that plays great and will turn a few heads this may be the one for you!
