Chet Atkins was already well on his way to “legendary” status when Fred Gretsch Sr. approached him in 1954 to design and endorse his own Gretsch guitar. The first result of this collaboration was the Model 6120 Chet Atkins Hollowbody which was immediately embraced by serious players across North America and abroad! This model quickly developed into one of the most popular models in the already extensive Gretsch guitar line!
While at the 2007 winter NAMM music trade show we were lucky enough to have a long chat with Fred Gretsch Jr. One of the first things he said to us was “It has been a dream of mine for the last twenty years to have the Chet Atkins name back where it belongs”. Well this year Mr. Gretsch got his wish with the introduction of several new Chet Atkins models including the G6120 pictured above!
This particular Model G6120 is a replica of the late ’50s version of this historically significant instrument, complete with U.S. made TV Jones Classic Filtertron humbucking pickups, Thumbprint fingerboard markers, single cutaway body with Trestle bracing, Gretsch Orange finish and Signpost pickguard!
