The Gibson Earl Scruggs Special banjo model was introduced in 1984, and originally 1,984 were built and hand-signed by Earl Scruggs. As production continued, the signatures changed to printed versions and on the Gibson Earl Scruggs Special, to an inlaid signature on the resonator.
The Gibson Earl Scruggs Special model features flame maple pot, resonator and neck, abalone- bound ebony fingerboard and headplate, gold plated and engraved metal parts, and lots of mother of pearl inlay.
With a serial number of ES 96 11, this is an Earl Scruggs Special model built in 1996 and was the 11th made. There may have been a total of 90 built.
This exceptional instrument is in very good condition, with little wear. A Snuffy Smith bridge has been added, and the original case is included. It has just been serviced by Grant MacNeill.
