Brand: Yair Stern
Instrument Categories: Mandolins, SOLD
Here we have a Yair Stern Octave Mandola, constructed in Oshawa, Ontario using Spruce top, Walnut back, and flame Maple sides and neck. Aside from those woods, the fingerboard is Indian Rosewood.
From his Oshawa workshop, Yair Stern builds musical instruments, primarily of the mandolin family as well as jewelry and watches. His octave mandolas use an unusual shape, with a standard lower bout but with a ‘tulip’ shaped upper bout, and with a flat top and back.
This Yair Stern Octave Mandola is a new instrument, and is well made with quality materials. The tone is warm yet bright and snappy, well balanced with good clarity and separation. It is very comfortable to play and its light hand applied finish provides some protection but does not restrict the wood’s vibration. The tailpiece is a cast, gold plated AShton Bailey unit. The tuners are also chrome plated, with faux pearl buttons.
The top uses a set of carved scroll work sound holes, mirrored on the two sides. The work is very clean and the lines sharp and well defined. Overall this is a well made instrument with a lot of attention to detail.
A gig bag is included.
