Mark Platen had been building fine banjos for the Twelfth Fret for over 20 years, and his workmanship and attention to detail are superb. The Wildwood Artist Custom Banjo is a Bluegrass oriented model and offers a historic ‘Gibson Clone’ banjo with Mark’s understated and elegant inlay, marquetry and premium woods. The Bronze tone-ring is fitted to a substantial block-rim which maximizes sustain and clarity. For years we have carried the wood tone ring Wildwood ‘Exotic Wood’ open back banjo, fitted with a Wenge wood tone ring and Wildwood now offers this tone ring as an option on the Artist Bluegrass model. Tonally, we hear a fuller, rounder bass with warmer trebles and the weight savings is substantial over the cast Bronze tone ring version. Woods, inlay and finish are as always with Wildwood — stunning indeed! Wildwood banjos include a premium hardshell, arch top case. |
