These are hard to find – a Wes Lambe 8-String Multiscale Guitar/Bass in Natural satin finish, built during 2008 in Chapel Hill, NC.
Using the tried and proven bolt-on concept, the Lambe 8-String Multiscale pairs a solid Mahogany body and a Maple neck with an Ebony multiscale or ‘fan fret’ fingerboard. On the treble side, the scale length is 25.5 inches (647.7mm), on the bass, 28.6 inches (724mm). The headstock is arranged with three bass tuners on one side, and five ‘guitar’ tuners on the treble side. For hardware, there are Gotoh tuners, and eight individual saddles placed for each string’s scale length. The lower saddles are selected to permit the much heavier gauge of a bass string. These instruments are wired in ‘stereo’, with two separate outputs, one for the ‘Guitar’ pair of Lace Alumitone pickups, and one for the ‘Bass’ Alumitone.
The Lambe 8-String Multiscale is a very well built instrument. This example is in good clean condition with minor wear, and offers a huge range of musical possibilities.
The original black rectangular TKL hard shell case is included.
Here’s the builder on the Wes Lambe 8-String Multiscale: 8 String Stereo- 3 BASS/5 GUITAR
“My stereo 8 string guitars are made so you can be a bassist and guitarist at the same time. Each side has a separate circuit with separate outputs. It is best to split the two frequency ranges so that the bass does not take up the full range of the speaker and muddy things up.
My 8 strings are 29″ (bass scale) and 25″ guitar scale with a 2 3/16″ nut width. I experimented with many different combinations of scales and widths, and found these to be the most comfortable to play for extended periods of time, with the best possible tone, and excellent intonation. I designed my stereo 8 string guitars from my own experience playing and performing with the instrument.”
