Brand: Yates Banjos
Instrument Categories: Banjos, SOLD
The Warren Yates Ron Stewart signature banjo is built in Hickory, North Carolina, and goes for the tone and feel of a 1930s model. Created in close consultation with Ron Stewart, this model features at its core a custom pre-war spec tone ring – the ‘Venom V33’ – and a Mahogany rim. Yates tries to make every part, with the resonators shaped and rims bent in-house.
This example dates to August 2011 and is in overall very good condition. With the Venom V33 tone ring and the Mahogany rim, the neck and resonator are also Mahogany. The fingerboard is bound Indian Rosewood with Mother of Pearl inlays. The metal parts are in very clean condition with a bit of plating wear at the edge of the arm rest, and no corrosion.
The open pore finish on the Yates Ron Stewart is very comfortable and doesn’t restrict the banjo’s vibration. Fretwear is minor, and capo tacks are installed. The inlay set is reminiscent of a Flying Eagle pattern, but has a number of differences. The tuners are Waverly ‘Pancake’ style tuners as used on pre-war Gibson banjos, so they fit right in with the overall goal of this instrument’s design.
