This is an interesting piece, a VR Custom Six String Fretless Bass by Vadim Rubtsov. It is one of the first he built in Canada and of African Padouk and Wenge with a Camatillo fingerboard and natural oil finish. The scale length is a standard 34 inches, and the hardware is by Gotoh. The pickup has a coil-split switch.
Vadim Rubtsov is a very interesting man, a talented builder and has been working on instruments since an early age in Odessa, Ukraine, where information, materials and components were not easy to come by. Following his entry to Canada in 1989, he soon took up building basses. Wider recognition was helped when Orin Isaacs, bandleader, composer and bassist for the Mike Bullard show started using an early model.
Vadim Rubtsov builds only custom instruments, with no plans to expand to mass production.

This VR Custom Six String Fretless exceptional bass is in overall good condition, plays well and has a great, woody sound. A hard shell case is included.
