Showing clear influences from the rarefied world of Tony Zemaitis, the Teye La Gitana sports hand built Mahogany construction and custom made engraved components.
This guitar plays and balances very well. It rings out cleanly and clearly, and the action is very clean and positive; there’s lots of traction when you grab a string.
Built in Austin, Texas during 2013, this Teye La Gitana is in excellent condition and has recently been set up. It is based on a proven design, with a capped mahogany body and set neck. Every detail is considered. The neck construction is of a total of four pieces, for stability, strength and durability. The longer section of the neck is laminated of three mahogany pieces, and the mahogany headstock is attached via a scarf joint to reduce the potential of breakage. This approach is very strong and stable; it’s definitely not done to reduce labour or cost. The fingerboard is Ebony, and most of the engraved metal parts are Aluminum. A jumbo fretwire was installed, and the fret work is very clean and smooth.
Tuners are Grover Imperials in Chrome with the Deco- Stair Step buttons. The pickups are custom wound and the wiring features a five-way switch offering:
– Neck-pickup
– Neck- and bridge pickups out of phase
– Neck and bridge pickups
– Bridge pickup plus tapped neck pickup
– Bridge pickup
The rotary controls include individual volume controls, a master tone control, and a ‘Mood’ control. The ‘Mood’ controls seems to function in the reverse of a traditional ‘tone’ control, in that it reduces low frequencies rather than highs. The electronics are epoxied to hide the exact circuitry.
The Teye La Gitana is very closely related to the El Torero model – construction is the same, but the Torero adds a large engraved aluminum frontplate.
The original Certificate of Authenticity is included in the original molded hard shell case.
