The Taylor 810e DLX draws from the classic Dreadnought design, pairing a Spruce top with Rosewood for the body for a full, rich sound with plenty of volume and projection.
Built in El Cajon, California and dated to November 15 2016, this Taylor 810e DLX is in overall good clean condition with just a couple of small marks in the finish – they can be hard to find. Fret wear is light, and mostly limited to the lower frets and higher strings; a light dress and polish would make them look new.
The 810e DLX uses a Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the sides and back (and pickguard), with Maple binding for the body and neck. The rosette is Abalone. Body blocks and neck are Mahogany, and the bridge, bound fingerboard and head plate are Crelicam Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora), which presents a marbled, black and brown appearance. This visual appearance is significant, because it represents socially and environmentally responsible forestry practices while having no impact on the structural or tonal properties of the wood.
This model also features an arm rest, based on the design developed by renowned Canadian luthier William Laskin. The arm rest here uses a shallower and softer angle than the 45 degree angle Laskin normally uses, but it is still an improvement over the sharp edge of a dreadnought!
For hardware, the Taylor 810e DLX carries a set of Gotoh 510 tuners at the headstock, one of the smoothest and most accurate tuning gears available.
As to electronics, the Taylor ES Expression System is factory stock, with the controls mounted next to the bass side of the heel and the battery pack mounted on a holder installed to the end block, along with the output jack. This is a very sensible arrangement, making it quick and easy to swap in a new standard 9v battery. The output jack is a switching type, engaging the battery whenever a cable is plugged in. Do disconnect the cable when you don’t need the pickup, and this will extend the battery life!
This is a very nice, well maintained guitar, with good looks, great feel, and a great sound.
The original Taylor branded hard shell case is included.
The Taylor 810e DLX model has been discontinued, and is no longer part of Taylor’s standard production catalog.
Here’s what the builder has to say about the Taylor 810e DLX:
“Dreadnought players will love the sleek feel of the rounded radius armrest on the rosewood/spruce 810e DLX, especially since the body’s wider waist naturally causes the guitar to sit higher in a player’s lap and push the lower bout (and potentially one’s picking arm) higher as a result. The guitar boasts a bundle a tone-enhancing refinements that help unleash driving low-end power with a vibrant upper register. Even better, 800 Deluxe models feature premium Adirondack spruce bracing, which in this case will reward hearty flatpickers with extra dynamic range, bold top-end punch, a robust projection. Premium appointments include Gotoh 510 tuners, which sport a 21:1 gear ratio for ultra-fine tuning control, maple binding and back strip, rosewood top edge trim, a rosewood pickguard, mother-of-pearl Element fretboard inlays, a smoky ebony fretboard, and Taylor’s natural-sounding Expression System 2 pickup and preamp.”
