The Taylor 615ce was built from 1998 to 2011 and used a cutaway version of Taylor’s Jumbo body style, pairing Sitka Spruce and highly figured Maple like other guitars in Taylor’s 600 series. The 615ce superseded the original 600 non-cutaway jumbo models, which were built from 1981 to 1998.
Taylor Guitars as a company was founded in 1974 as a partnership between Bob Taylor and Kurt Lustig and has become one of the largest US based musical instrument manufacturers. In recent years, both founders have been stepping back from active roles. In January of 2021, full ownership of the company was transferred to its employees, via an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Taylor, personally and as a company, has also been very active in promoting ethical and sustainable forestry practices, especially through their joint ownership of the Crelicam Ebony mill in Cameroon.
Here we’re looking at a Taylor 615ce dating to December 22, 2000 and built in the El Cajon, California plant. It’s in overall good condition with general light wear. Fret wear extends to moderate on a few frets but a simple fret dress, recrown and polish would readily bring them back to very good condition. The finish has a small amount of light scuffing on the back and a few small marks on the top. The top is Sitka Spruce, the sides and back are flamed Big Leaf Maple, and neck is Mahogany, and Ebony is used for the bridge, head plate and fingerboard. The rosette is Abalone while the position markers are a combination of Abalone and Mother of Pearl.
From 1998 until 2004, Taylor used a Fishman Prefix pickup and pre-amp set these models. The Fishman pre-amp box is mounted on the bass side of the waist, easily accessible for changing the 9v battery.
This guitar plays well, looks great and has a full, rich sound.
The original Taylor hard shell case is included.
