Instrument Categories: 12 String, Acoustic Steel String, Guitars, SOLD
The Taylor 556 12-string Grand Symphony is now discontinued and replaced by models like the 552ce and 562ce Grand Concert. Still, it shows why Taylor took over the spot for ‘King of the 12-String Jumbo’, and why artists like Leo Kottke picked them up. For a time, Leo Kottke had his own Taylor signature model, though it is now discontinued.
The Grand Symphony body shape is a full size jumbo, roughly equivalent to the Gibson J-200 or Guild F55. It provides a lot of output power and when built using a Spruce top paired with Mahogany back and sides, delivers that with sparkle, clarity and articulation.
Here’s what the builder says about the 500 series, of witch the Taylor 556 12 String was a part:
“Singer-songwriters are often drawn to our 500 Series because mahogany yields its inspiring tone easily, with a breathy midrange and a wonderful balance of warmth, clarity and complexity. “
This Taylor 556 12 String Acoustic Guitar dates to March 9, 2017 and is in very good original condition. It plays very well, and has a brilliant yet warm, open sound, with little of the sonic clutter that can be found on 12-strings. Unusually for modern Taylor guitars, it is not equipped with a pickup system – it is purely acoustic.
The original Taylor hard-shell case is included.
