Here we have a spectacular Suhr Custom Modern Plus with a Burled Maple cap finished in Bengal Burst on an African Black Limba body and Roasted Maple neck.
This beautiful, very well built Suhr Custom Modern Plus is in nearly new condition with only the slightest wear. The stainless steel frets show no signs of wear, and the finish is near pristine.
African Black Limba (Terminalia superba) is native to Western Africa and is not new to the guitar world. Gibson used it on several iconic instruments in the late 1950’s, particularly the Flying V and Explorer. For marketing purposes, they named it Korina. Tonally, like Mahogany, it tends to enhance sustain in the midrange.
For electronics, this Suhr Custom Modern Plus uses an HSH configuration, with an SSV ‘zebra’ at the neck, an ML Standard in the middle, and an SSH Plus ‘zebra’ at the bridge. The knobs are very cool 1950’s Gibson Speed style. There is a five way switch and Master Volume; the Master Tone control is a push/pull and splits both pickups. As well, there’s a small pushbutton between the volume control and switch. This is a ‘Blower’ switch, which overrides the control settings and sends just the full Bridge pickup to the output.
Sold with its original and excellent G&G rectangular hard shell case, black with dark blue interior and two combination locks.
