The Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro Folk Mahogany features all solid wood and a brilliant high-gloss Custom Polished finish, as well as a vintage style slotted headstock and butter-bean tuning machines.
This guitar is very well suited to fingerstyle playing. The compact body size of the Woodland Pro Folk Mahogany makes playing it seated comfortable for most people, and the lower fret positions are an easy reach. The tone is rich and warm, aided by the Mahogany top.
Built in La Patrie, Quebec by the Godin company – Simon and Patrick are the names of Robert Godin’s sons – the Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro Folk Mahogany is entirely built of solid Mahogany, except for the Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. Laminates are not used on these models. Where possible, the woods used are locally sourced from the upper section of the Adirondack Mountain range, which extends into Quebec.
The slotted headstock used here was very common on guitars until the early 1930’s, and allows for a reduced head angle. On this type of headstock, because the tuners are parallel to the plane of the head, there is significantly more downbearing at the nut. On now-common unslotted heads, the tuners project up, and to gain enough downbearing, the head must tip back further, or – as on Fender electrics which don’t tip back at all – use string retainers.
The Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro Folk Mahogany is sold without case. We carry three types of cases for these guitars – two gig bags and the Tric case – which are available at a discounted price when purchased with the guitar.
These cases are a Basic gig bag at $45, a Deluxe blue gig bag at $70, and the Tric case at $99.
