Brand: Siavash Tahmasebi
Instrument Categories: Classical and Flamenco, Guitars, SOLD
It’s unusual enough to come across 10 string classical guitar, but far more so to find one built by Siavash Tahmasebi in Iran. This is a top quality, concert grade guitar showing strong Spanish and other European influences, from the instrument concept itself to the label using Spanish terms, to the closely mitred purfling. The slotted peghead is distinctive, and likely helps to balance the instrument.
This 1o string classical guitar is signed by Siavash Tahmasebi at his shop in Shahin Shahr, Esfahan, Iran and dated to 2002, with a dedication to its original purchaser on a secondary hand-written label. It is built along the lines of many European 10 string guitars, with Cedar top, Indian Rosewood back, sides, binding, headplate, backstrap and bridge. The neck is Mahogany with Ebony for the fingerboard and center stiffening strip. The tuners are gold-plated Schaller models, made of two sets slightly modified to allow for 5 gears per side. The neck block is rounded, rather than having a traditional slipper foot, suggesting that a dovetail joint was used to attach the neck – making any possible future neck set repairs possible.
The nut width is 86mm and the scale length a long 660mm; this long scale is needed to allow for the low pitch of the bass strings.
This excellent instrument is in overall good condition; it has definitely been played but not abused. There is minor wear and a number of small dents and scratches. Fretwear is minimal, as expected on nylon string guitars.
A hard shell case by Cort is included.
