Comments | The negative neck angle, suspended fingerboard extension, offset soundholes, lattice top bracing, armrest bevel, side port and adjustable neck angle … are all contributions to the evolution of the nylon string guitar that have gained respect amongst both luthiers and players alike. Over the last thirty years, Sergei de Jonge has been at the cutting edge of developing & popularizing these innovative additions to the guitar builder’s arsenal.
This stunning Jazz-Nylon model is a perfect example of Mr. de Jonge’s intelligent implementation of some of the most important advances in guitar design. The negative neck angle affords a more efficient string angle coming off the bridge, as well as allowing a suspended fingerboard extension which frees up more of the top to vibrate. The offset soundholes also give a more efficient use of the top (witness the amount of useable top above the bridge). The side port of course, allows the player to hear a much better representation of the true tone of his instrument. Sergei’s own neck angle adjustment is a lesson in simplicity, allowing the player to easily adjust his string height without lowering his saddle! All structural features aside, this stunning Bearclaw figured Engelmann spruce top in conjunction with a magnificent set of Brazilian rosewood back & sides and of course the instinct & skill of a man who has been building some of the world’s finest instruments for over 30 years … combine to create this “crossover” style jazz nylon string with all of the tonal nuance, crisp articulation and sonic complexity of a fine concert grade classical instrument! |
