Brand: Seagull Guitars
Instrument Categories: Mandolins, SOLD
The Seagull S8 Mandolin is based on the Seagull Merlin dulcimer body, and is one of the most innovative mandolins we’ve seen for a while. It’s not based on either the traditional European flat-top bowl-back designs or the Gibson violin influenced designs.
Instead, the Seagull S8 is built from a three-piece maple block in a neck-through chambered design, with a flat spruce top (with longitudinal bracing) and rosewood fingerboard. The bridge is fixed to the top, has an Tusq nut and intonated Tusq saddle, and there’s a very nice seashell-motif nickel plated brass tailpiece. The scale length is 13.75 inches.
While the Seagull S8 Mandolin doesn’t provide the raw output levels that the Gibson violin-based designs can, sometimes lower volume levels are more desirable. That said, it’s certainly loud enough to play with acoustic guitars or on its own, even in the back seat of a car.
These are very attractive, easy to play and affordable mandolins and well worth looking at.
