Here we’re looking at a Sadowsky Metro Jazz-style 4-string bass built during 2012 in Tokyo, Japan. While top end Sadowsky guitars and basses are built in the USA – in Long Island City – the Japanese-built Metro models were launched in 2003. In 2018, Japanese production ended and the Metro Express line was built in Germany, under license by Warwick.
Drawing heavily from Leo Fender’s original Jazz Bass design, the Sadowsky Metro Jazz features an Alder body paired with a 70’s style Maple neck and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The position markers appear to be acrylic blocks, and the truss rod adjuster is at the body end but is accessible without removing the neck or pickguard. The tuners are Sadowsky branded and the bridge is a Sadowsky-improved version of the original P-Bass model.

This bass is in overall very good, clean condition with only light wear.

Sadowski Guitars are built by Roger Sadowsky and a small crew in Long Island City, New York. Sadowsky has been repairing and building instruments, since 1972, starting with two years work with luthier Augie LoPrinzi.
Since 1979. Roger Sadowsky has been a go-to for top shelf bassists seeking the best they could get. At first, that involved upgrading 60’s and 70’s Fender basses but as those became rarer and more costly, the decision was made to build from scratch. His customer list is enormous and impressive.
Sadowsky guitars and basses are built largely in Long Island City, but since August of 2003 there has been offshore production. Until 2018 the Metroline was built in Japan, followed by the MetroExpress line built in Germany.
