The Ron Belanger M12 comes from the workshop of Ron Belanger near Orillia, Ontario, between lakes Simcoe and Couchiching. A woodworker for many years, Belanger started building guitars in 1998, and also builds classical guitars, Irish Bouzoukis Resophonic and Hawaiian guitars. His influences clearly include top Canadian luthiers including Grit Laskin.
Here we’re looking at a Ron Belanger M12, built during 2008. It features a Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood for the back and sides, Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the fingerboard, head plate and bridge. The bone saddle has been carefully carved for intonation. The back’s center strip is a traditional ‘zipper’ style. In a clear nod to his influences, a Laskin Arm Rest is installed on the lower bass edge of the top. Small bodied Gotoh tuners are installed at the head.
This guitar is in overall good condition, with some play wear. It appears to have had a neck reset at some point, so the neck angle and action are good. It has a full, rich sound with lots of warm top end.
A Tric case is included.
