The Rickenbacker 660/12 appeared in 1998 as the production version of a limited edition Tom Petty model, both based on a 1963 625/12 owned by Mike Campbell.
Here we’re looking at a Rickenbacker 660/12 dated to October 2019, during the week of the 14th to 18th. It’s in excellent condition, with virtually no wear. It plays well, and has the classic Ric 12 sound.
While the Rickenbacker 660/12 has a definite vintage look, there are two key differences from the 625 – a rather wider fingerboard and a 12-saddle bridge. Its construction is otherwise the same – a Maple through-neck with solid Maple ‘wings’ creating the Cresting Wave shape, a finished and bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard with triangle markers, and the Ric compact 12-string headstock. The tuners are Kluson style, but marked ‘Ric Deluxe’ and made by Gotoh; the bridge is a 12-saddle model for precise intonation and the tailpiece is a flat plate Trapeze type. The two pickups are scatter wound Toaster Tops, running through the Ric 5-control system – pickup selector, individual volume and tone controls, and a blend control. The output is Mono only. The wiring diagram can be seen on the Rickenbacker site, at this link.
The original hard shell case is included.
