Brand: Rickenbacker
Instrument Categories: 12 String, Electric, Guitars, SOLD, Solidbody
The Rickenbacker 620/12, introduced in 1981 is the 12-string version of the cresting-wave solid body 620 six string model, and both are based on the model 625 built from 1962 to 1977, a design by Roger Rossmeisl.
Seen here is a Rickenbacker 620/12 in AutumnGlo finish, dated to April or 1993 at Santa Ana, California. It is in overall good condition with light play and finish wear. Fret wear is light to moderate, particularly in the low positions, there’s a small amount of finish wear on the back, and there are a few small finish chips around the guitar. The guitar plays well, and definitely sounds like a Ric!
Sold with its original hard shell case.
Construction of the Rickenbacker 620/12 is straightforward. The basic design is as a neck-through with a Maple center section, and the body is built up with Maple wings. The fingerboard is Indian Rosewood — and that’s it for woods. For hardware, the headstock has the characteristic Rickenbacker tuner arrangement – one set is vertical and the other horizontal, allowing for a more compact shape. At the other end, an ‘R’ tailpiece holds the strings, which pass over the six-saddle stock bridge. The 620/12 gets the full two-pickup Rickenbacker circuitry, with a pair of high-gain pickups, pickup selector, individual volume and tone controls, blend control and both Mono and Rick-O-Sound output jacks.
As a 12-string, the 625/12 is exceedingly rare; the earliest example is owned by Mike Campbell and was used on many Tom Petty albums and tours.
