The Rickenbacker 4005XC was built for the company’s 90th Anniversary as a limited edition model. It was available for dealer order for one week during January 2021, with the number built coming from the total orders.
Starting with the original 1958 to mid-1964 style 360 body subsequently used on the 330 models, the Rickenbacker 4005XC is then fitted with a 30.5 inch (774.7mm) 24-fret neck with Cresting Wave headstock.
This example of the limited Rickenbacker 4005XC thinline bass was built during 2022 in Santa Ana, California and is in excellent condition with an Amber FireGlo finish. The body is Maple with checker binding around the top and back, and a slash soundhole on the bass side. The neck is two pieces of Maple with Walnut for the centre section and the headstock ‘wings’. For hardware, a set of chrome plated open gear tuners are at the head, with a four-saddle bridge (with cover) and ‘U’ shaped tailpiece at the body. Electronics start with a set of Vintage style ‘Toaster Top’ pickups followed by Rickenbacker’s 5-control layout with Ric-O-Sound and mono output jacks.
This very interesting Rickenbacker 4005XC bass is sold with its original silver coloured hard shell case. The case contains the original user guide and the 90th Anniversary and Made in USA stickers from the upper pickguard.
The Rickenbacker 4005 was launched in 1965 and available until 1984, though with a rounder body shape. There were several variants including the 4005L, the ‘Lightshow’ model with clear top and internal lighting.
