This spectacular and rare 2013 Rickenbacker 381V69 six string wearing a JetGlo – Gloss Black – finish is in near perfect condition! The Rickenbacker 381V69 reproduces the 1969 version of the 381, originally introduced in 1957 and built until 1963, and again from 1969 to 1974 with the modern two-level pickguard used here. This model is also available in a 12 string version.
The Rickenbacker 381v69 design, originally the Model 381 was created by Roger Rossmeisl, a German luthier who emigrated to the USA to work for Gibson during 1953. This arrangement didn’t last long at all, and by 1954 Rossmeisl had taken a ‘Vacation’ and moved to Los Angeles where he was hired by Francis Hall at Rickenbacker. Here, he created many of the designs Rickenbacker still offers. Rossmeisl later left Rickenbacker for Fender, and was responsible for the Telecaster Thinline. Roger Rossmeisl ultimately returned to Germany and died in Berlin during 1979.
This Rickenbacker 381V69 example dates to the 32nd week of 2013 – September 1 to 8 – and does not appear to have been played more than a few minutes. It has clearly spent most of its time in its case, a silver rectangular Rickenbacker model.
